It’s been a good week for the cryptocurrency market as its total capitalization increased by more than $250 billion, currently sitting above $2.5 trillion, thanks to considerable gains across the board. The recent trigger for this recovery was the assassination attempt on US Presidential candidate Donald Trump. Many believe that this event cemented Trump’s chances of winning the next US presidential election. Trump has shown positivity towards the cryptocurrency industry and is set to make an appearance at the Bitcoin conference in Nashville later this month, leading investors to be optimistic about the industry flourishing under his presidency.

Bitcoin’s price surged by 14% compared to last week, pushing to break the crucial resistance at $66K. Despite facing a dip earlier when bears pushed the price to $63K, buyers managed to recover and are aiming to chart a one-month high. Ethereum also saw a rise of about 12% and is attempting to surpass the critical $3.5K level. However, amidst the positive market movements, the leading cryptocurrency exchange in India, WazirX, faced a hack where around $230 million was stolen, putting the exchange’s future at risk. On another note, market participants are eagerly anticipating the launch of spot Ethereum ETFs expected next week on July 23rd.

The cryptocurrency headlines of the week included the market’s massive volatility following the Donald Trump shooting, the WazirX hack that compromised over $230 million, and Vitalik Buterin urging the crypto community to consider more than just a pro-crypto stance in political support. Additionally, Polygon is set to migrate from MATIC to POL token in September following community approval, and Bitcoin ETFs recorded significant daily net inflows while BTC saw a 10% weekly gain. Lastly, the crypto exchange OKX will discontinue services in Nigeria, requiring users to withdraw their assets by August 30th.
